Day Two

Sorry this is late, but we had a very long day on Saturday.

Now, to the itinerary...

We left Salina (long i sound we found out) early Saturday morning and arrived at Hermosa, SD at about 6:30. We had some dinner at a little diner there and then went to the Monument. We got there about 7:45 and looked at the gift shop and some of the other things they had to do there until the lighting ceremony started at 9. This ended about 9:30 and we headed up to Rapid City to our hotel.

Here are some pictures...

Here is His Royal Majesty, Arobin, keeping watch over my internet cable. Never has a cat looked so handsome doing so little.

A barn.

A convent. Built in 1913.

Yay! Nebraska. The way we planned our trip, we essentially crossed the state. Nebraska is a lot longer than you might think. It's a very beautiful state.

And, of course, what state would be complete without "Carhenge?" This is an art piece that some guy put out in a field. It is made out of old automobiles and designed to look like the world-famous Stonehenge. My wife saw it profiled on the History Channel a few years ago and had no idea we would be passing by this little town in Nebraska.

And what farm in Nebraska would be complete without it's own rest area?

South Dakota. These Upper Plains states are so beautiful. Miles and miles of nowhere.

This was a special treat. We stopped at a diner in Hermosa, SD right after a light rain storm. This beautiful full rainbow appeared and people were stepping outside to see it and to snap pictures. My camera could only get this much in one exposure.

And last, but certainly not least, The Big Boys. This picture was actually taken the next morning, but it was the best of the bunch. The evening pictures had streaks on the faces from the rain.

Well, that does it. I will write more tomorrow morning about Sunday's exploits.
