A picture from yesterday. You only pass through about 30 miles of Arizona on the way to Nevada from this direction.
See what I mean. ;)
A picture of the kids inside Luxor. This is the Egypt-themed casino.
We went to the dinner show at Excalibur. It is similar to Medieval Times in Dallas. The show, of course was different but the kids enjoyed it. The food was very good and the entertaiment was very good.
Excalibur casino and hotel. You really can't grasp how big these places are until you go inside them. They are all huge.
Hoover Dam!! Since I was a kid (which was too long ago) I have wanted to see the Hoover Dam. I saw a movie about its creation when I was in school and it has been a goal of mine to see it. It did not disappoint. I really had to conquer my fear of heights, though. It's a TALL dam.
A good view of the dam.
The left picture is the new bridge they are building that will bypass the dam. Right now there are restrictions on what kinds of vehicles can cross the dam. Also, it is only a two lane road so the traffic really backs up. The right picture is the underground generators. The lights on top of the generators indicate if the generator is producing electricity. At the time I took this, only one generator was inoperative.
Jane playing with a exhibit that allowed you to create your own electricity.
A fear-of-heights-curing shot.
This is where the generators are housed.
The left picture is a monument to the men who died in the construction of the dam. There is an identical statue on the other side of the flag pole. The right picture is a couple of the intake towers for the dam. These two are on the Nevada side of the border. The other two are on the Arizona side.
After we toured the dam, we went back to Vegas and visited more hotels and shops. This one billed itself as the world's largest so we couldn't pass it up.
More pictures later.
